Overview

The fully-redesigned Grappler Type J Series leverages Shimano's premium rod technologies — Spiral X and Hi-Power X — while incorporating new blank action and tapers trickling down from Shimano's flagship rod series to deliver smooth, stress-free jigging performance. With a wide variety of powers and actions in both casting and spinning models to provide versatile rods capable of heightened performance, the Grappler Type J series has a place in every nearshore/offshore jigging angler's arsenal. Shimano engineers incorporated a substantial power increase in the butt section of Grappler Type J Medium Heavy (MH) to Extra-Extra Heavy (XXH) to enhance angler lifting power. All Medium Light (ML) to Medium Heavy (MH) models feature Shimano's innovative CI4+ reel seat to increase sensitivity by transmitting more feedback to the angler and boosting in-hand comfort. Type J Heavy (H) to Extra-Extra Heavy (XXH) models incorporate a V Hold front grip design to increase the ergonomic function of the rods when battling hard-fighting fish. This grip design also provides stability, comfort, and a premium aesthetic to improve all aspects of the angling experience.

Hi-Power X

Hi-Power X construction uses diagonally-wrapped carbon tape to form an array of "X" shapes on the rod blank's outermost layer. The width of the tape, its winding angle and the part of the rod being wrapped are fine-tuned according to the target fish species. This manufacturing process allows Shimano to adjust these wraps during construction for precise actions, enhanced overall strength and added twist resistance. In short, Hi-Power X construction delivers sharp and crisp rod control for the angler.

Spiral X

Through its exclusive lightweight structure, Shimano's patented Spiral X construction enhances catching power for anglers. Spiral X construction consists of three layers: a middle layer of vertical fibers as well as inner and outer layers, both comprised of carbon tape that tightly winds the blank diagonally in opposite directions. By using this carbon tape in place of a conventional horizontal fiber sheet, Spiral X achieves enhanced compression rigidity and increased torsional rigidity without adding extra weight. This in turn facilitates instant power transmission for precise casting and fish fighting.
